Semi spot for Bredon

5:00pm Friday 10th February 2012

BREDON Star secured a Gloucestershire RFU Under 10s Festival semi-final place at Dursley.

Competing against 30 other teams in pools of six, Bredon started with a 2-2 draw on tries against St Mary’s from Almondsbury with James Petts and Freddie Thomas scoring.

They recorded a hard-fought 2-1 win over Stroud, thanks to Chay Hawkins and Matt Oliver, before battling to a 3-3 draw with Lydney.

Hit by injuries, Bredon went three tries down against strong opposition but Hawkins, Thomas and Oliver struck back. Bredon sealed their lasteight berth with a 2-0 win over Tewkesbury before seeing off Berry Hill 5-2 on a better pitch with Thomas (2), Oliver (3) and Ben Oliver diving over.

They are now looking to the finals day on March 26 at Longlevens, Gloucester.

Bredon’s under 12s defeated Kidderminster Carolians 49-7, while the under sevens edged out Bromyard 8-4.

The under eights beat Kidderminster Carolians 12-10 and lost 8-4 in two games with Harry Greasby and George Fowler among the try-scorers.
