Three wins for Paul not enough for Bears

11:10am Friday 10th February 2012

THE Evesham Table Tennis League recommenced after a short break for the holidays.

In Specsavers Division Two, Wyre Barbed Wyre started their second-half with a 5-5 draw against Littleton Bears.

Paul Bruner managed to win all of his three singles against John Buxton, Eric Lane and Joan Parfitt.

Lane and Buxton did, however, go on to win their other two singles against Graham Jackson and Gregory Bruner.

Their fifth win of the evening came from Parfitt, who beat Bruner, but Bears took the doubles which left the match locked level.

In an all-Bengeworth clash, Green narrowly beat Wolves 6-4.

Wolves’ Chris Message and Lucy Mander both won two games apiece.

Message beat Geoff Clark and Dave Simkins but lost in the fifth set against Brian Haines.

Mander also saw off Clark and Simkins but lost to Haines.

The last match took place between Bengeworth 49ers and Littleton Panthers and ended 5-5.

Rosie Phillpot was the star of the evening after winning her three singles matches for Panthers.

Panthers’ Gemma Mckay won two of her singles against Stan Owen and Sandra Wheeler.

But Ewan Mckay, the third player for Panthers, was not quite strong enough for Owen, Wheeler or Brian Gregory.

Wheeler and Owen took the doubles for 49ers, levelling the score at 5-5.
