A third final place is secured for Bret pair

2:00pm Sunday 5th February 2012

Watkins and midfielder Lisa Workman helped Gloucestershire women through to the national veterans’ finals for the second year in a row.

Workman scored the third, crucial goal in a 3-0 win over Bournemouth with Watkins keeping an all-important clean sheet.

Bretforton lost 2-0 at home to leaders Gloucester seconds in the West Club Women’s League North Division.

Sarah Cook and Daisy Wheeler snuffed out many a Gloucester attack but the visitors led 1-0 at half-time.

Midfielders Workman and Sophie Hamilton controlled the game for long periods in the second period.

Gloucester, however, won a flurry of short corners and one was effective with a rocket of a shot that left keeper Watkins no chance.

Amy Trotman, Sarah Hall, Deb Slatter and Hamilton went close to pulling a goal back.

Captain Kate Mitchell was player-of-the-match and Bretforton host Jaspers, who they share fourth place with in the table, at Evesham High School on Saturday (10.30am).
