Willersey grab a fifth placing

6:30am Thursday 11th March 2010

THE fifth places in the girls’ competition of the Cotswold Floorball League have been played.

Willersey clinched fifth place with a 5-1 win over Temple Guiting.

Jodie Russell opened the scoring for Willersey, but Nell Maude soon levelled after a period of prolonged Guiting pressure.

Everything seemed set for a draw, but Russell made the most of three defensive slips to pick up loose balls and score.

It was she who scored the fifth goal in the dying seconds.

This left Temple Guiting in eighth place of the 12 teams in the competition.

Dormer House needed a win over Willersey to gain sixth place, above Swell who have played all their matches in this group.

They made plenty of chances, going 2-0 up as half-time approached, with goals from Flavia Kropf and Georgia Kavanagh.

Willersey kept their composure and Jodie Russell netted four in a row to put her team ahead in the contest.

Kropf pulled one back, but the goal of the night was by Laura Tolley.

She had battled away all game on the right wing and received a perfect pass across the pitch from Russell.

A clean shot whizzed past the Dormer House keeper to make it 5-3.

Russell added her team’s sixth goal and her tenth of the night to round things off.

Dormer House repeated their success of the early season over Temple Guiting, winning 3-0 in a friendly.

Flavia Kropf, Florrie Pollen and Georgia Kavanagh were the scorers.

Tonight (Thursday) is semi-final night for the ‘A’ teams.
