Couple have shed seven stone

A COUPLE have discovered a new lease of life after losing more than seven stone between them.

David and Mary Beasley, of Cedar Road, Mickleton, were crowned Slimming World Couple of the Year 2012 after losing weight through a healthy eating plan.

The couple, who have been married for 48 years, joined the Slimming World group in Chipping Campden after realising their weight was putting their health at risk.

Since joining the club in September 2010, Mary has lost three stone seven pounds while her husband has lost three stone nine pounds since he joined in March last year.

David, aged 65, said: “We didn’t suddenly wake up with a weight problem. Like most people, our weight crept up gradually. I think it’s easy for couples to become comfortable with one another, especially when the kids have grown up and left home and romantic meals and nights in with a bottle of wine take the toll on the waistline over time.”

His wife Mary, aged 63, who is diabetic, said: “I think what really worked for us was losing weight together. It meant we spurred each other on and stayed motivated.

“And I suppose there’s been a little bit of healthy competition too.”
