See off the gloom

See off the gloom

BATTLE the gloomy effects of the cold weather with an evening of stand-up comedy tomorrow.

The headline act at Evesham Arts Centre is the guitar-wielding, award-winning, bellowing madman Nick Helm, contrasting nicely with geography teacher Mark Cooper Jones and laidback Welshman Paul James.

Helm was crowned winner of the Best Joke of the Edinburgh Fringe 2011 and has appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News and Chris Addison’s Show & Tell.

He was also nominated for the 2010 Edinburgh Fosters Comedy Award, the biggest award in comedy. Helm is the selfproclaimed “Human Car Crash Of Light Entertainment”, who mixes music with shouting, befriending, gags and ridiculous posturing.

Cooper Jones is one-third of WitTank, the well-established and popular revue group who have entertained the Edinburgh Fringe since 2006.

As well as being an established comedian he is also the only part-time geography teacher to make the 2011 national final of the Loaded Laftas Best Comic competition.

James has built up a cult fan base in his native Wales, where he set up and regularly MCs the outlandish and acclaimed Clown’s Pocket comedy club.

The night will be orchestrated by Kieran Boyd, another member of the very successful sketch trio WitTank.

The show starts at 8pm. Strong language is likely and the minimum age is 16.

Tickets cost £10 on the night, £9 in advance or £8 for students, Arts Association members and groups of eight or more.

Tickets are available now from EveshamArtsCentre.co.uk and from the Almonry, in Abbey Road, on 01386 446944.
